One of the joys of beauty writing is having the opportunity to have a sneak peak backstage at the looks for the upcoming season. Thanks to M.A.C. I was able to visit the backstage preparations of Anya Hindmarch, Peter Pilotto and Antonio Berardi. So what can we look forward to beauty-wise this summer? Well it’s great news for those of us who love a natural make-up look…
Anya Hindmarch:
Always one for the theatrical, Anya Hindmarch’s theatrical Circulus offered plenty of inspiration for lead make-up artist, Val Garland. Drawing on the futuristic nature of the show itself, make-up centred on glossy alabaster skin with as much light thrown on it as possible. Think super-slick with brushed up brows, glossy lips and even wet look lashes.
Hair by Sam McKnight took a similar path with perfectly glossy appearing out of face lift style neoprene bandages. For an at-home version you’ll need lots of hair oil for ultimate shine. Marian Newman’s nails were a continuation of a burgeoning trend we are all going to love: crystal nails. Clean, lovely and delicate, all that’s needed is some serious gloss.
Peter Pilotto:
Make-up was beautifully fresh with a distinct festival-travel-type feel. A soft, sun-kissed blush was lifted with a hint of shine on the skin, brows and eyes for a look that was delicately beautiful and very real feeling. Hair was styled to be sweet but with something ever so slightly off. Once again it was all about being delicate with a hint of healthy shine. Nails were pretty but almost not there, with just two coats of M.A.C. Pink Opal Transformation and a matte topcoat for an illusion of disappearance and reappearance. All-in-all, rather beautiful.
Antonio Berardi:
A show all about individuality and creating a better version of yourself, hair was super clean and fluid. I finally got to see the new Dyson Hair Dryer in action and it is at once powerful but gentle. To create that stunning movement Bumble & Bumble Dry Oil Finishing Spray before being put in a knot and shaken out at the last minute for a gentle wave. Complemented with hyper-clean skin woken up with an icy massage with a face roller and given a matte finish with M.A.C. Mineralized Powder. A natural blush was blushed down from cheekbones for a pretty, just chased down the bus, flush and just lip balm on the lips finished this ultra-sweet look. Nails were once again crystal-inspired with a gel topcoat smoothed over nails followed by a normal topcoat for a young, fresh and clean touch.
Obviously there is still much more to look forward to with Fashion Month still in progress, but I’m certainly excited for a summer of beautifully fresh, luminescent beauty.
