I’ve always thought of myself as a bit of a lone wolf when it comes to working out. From my treadmill obsession at university to now in the weights room I’ve always been happy just getting on with things on my own. But recently, as you’ve probably read, I’ve been in a bit of a slump when it comes to getting my butt in the gym. So, in an effort to break the cycle of ignored 5.30am alarms, I decided to spend my Friday night in a workout class at Adidas Studio Brick Lane.
Yep. I know how to have a fun Friday night! But honestly, nothing feels more virtuous than a kickass class to start the weekend. So, after months of receiving the Adidas Women’s automated messages on Facebook, I finally got myself down to the Studio. For those in London who don’t know, you can literally sign up to receive these messages from Adidas and book in for classes. Each week they run a different series, so you could be doing anything from barre to HIIT, or there is their weekly run group too. Oh and best of all, it’s completely free. You pay nothing. How awesome is that?!
To start my Adidas adventure I booked in for a special class with Tally Rye, who is one of my fitness blogging faves. Titled ‘Sculpt & Sweat’, it was a 45 minute combo of cardio and low weight high rep weights. Planned out in partner-based supersets, it was a gruelling 40 seconds of work, 20 seconds rest system, with partners swapping between weights and cardio. Think partner A doing kettlebell deadlifts while partner B does a mountain-climber-burpee-hybrid. Then swap. And repeat for 3 sets. I loved it.
I won’t lie, I’ve done harder classes. But considering how truly terrible I’ve been about getting in the gym this month it sure did make me ache the next day! Plus I loved the camaraderie created by pairing you up into workout partners – I’m definitely going to try and grab some workout buddies for more partner workouts of my own creation!
Throw in the fact that my lovely partner, a newbie to the Studio like me, and I won the finisher challenge and I left the Studio on a complete high. On such a high in fact, that I totally forgot to take any photos, so I have nothing to show you visually of my awesome session. Guess I’ll just have to go again eh? Can’t wait until Tuesday’s Pop Fit now…
